Wairau Creek – A Continuing Journey
Exploring the shifting life of Wairau Creek, this exhibition continues my long-term investigation into the creek’s ecology, history, and layered stories,
My connection to this waterway is personal and lifelong. My grandparents had a market garden on Porana Road beside the creek, where my mother grew up. The creek has been part of my family’s landscape for generations, and that sense of memory, place, and change continues to shape my practice.
Through layered paintings, I draw on sediment, currents, plant life, and traces of human impact to reflect the meeting of natural and urban environments. Each time I walk the creek, it reveals something new, a reminder that it is still alive, still speaking, still holding its stories beneath the surface.
